Which card terminal is right for your business?

We know that every business operates differently, which is why there’s no one-size-fits-all when it comes to card terminals.

There are a range of devices on offer, so it can be difficult to know which one is right for your business. We’re here to support you to help you make the right decision.

Whether you’re in a store or on the move, we’ve created a simple guide to help you understand which card terminal is the best fit for your business!

All of our terminals accept the major credit and debit cards (Visa, Mastercard & American Express) as well as both Android and Apple Pay, so that’s one less thing to worry about. Our terminals are also equipped to provide high-speed printing and a pin shield, so your customers feel that little bit safer when paying for goods or services.

Here’s our rundown of the different card terminals and their features, with our recommendation of which businesses benefit most from each terminal.

Countertop

Don’t want your device being moved around your premises? Our standard fixed device sits at your checkout and is connected via either your phone or broadband line, making it a reliable choice. This is great for high-volume retail businesses who want to take payments in one fixed location, or for service businesses like salons and car garages taking payments over the counter.

Ideal for: Businesses operating from a fixed checkout, e.g. retail businesses, car garages and salons.

Portable

Do you have premises where there’s no fixed transaction spot? Do you want the flexibility of using your terminal in any part of your premises? Then the portable terminal is the choice for you. Connected by a choice of Bluetooth, broadband or Wi-Fi, the portable terminal allows you to move freely with your device and take payments from every corner of your business.

Ideal for: the hospitality sector, restaurants, pubs and cafés allowing you to take payments at the customer’s table.

Mobile GPRS

What if your business isn’t run from a premises? What if you work on the go or if you’re attending events? We’ve got you covered! Our mobile GPRS terminal allows you to take your business to your customers! The terminal is fitted with a GPRS sim card which enables you to take payments anywhere within the UK! It’s also fitted with an integrated rechargeable battery, so you don’t have to worry about it going flat on the road.

With mobile GPRS it’s important to consider that you may struggle to take card payments if you’re trading in an area with no or poor mobile signal. So, if you’re planning to trade regularly in one location, it might be worth checking the signal strength before committing to a mobile GPRS terminal.

Ideal for: On-the-go businesses, tradespeople, food trucks and mobile vendors.

All card terminals require an internet connection. If you want to upgrade your card terminals or start using card payments for the first time but are worried your broadband might not be up to the job, you can secure a great deal on superfast fibre business broadband from our sister company kinex on 0161 465 6661.
