Payment processing provider Inspire Payments has today announced an initial 12-month sponsorship deal with talented English golf pro, Ashton Turner.
At just 25, Ashton has achieved many first place and top-ten rankings since turning professional in 2016.
He competed in the Open Championship in 2018 and 2019, and also in the 1836 Tour, the 2020 Pro Tour, the EuroPro Tour, the Challenge Tour and the European Tour.
Having been introduced to Inspire Payments MD Gareth Poppleton at their shared home club of Kenwick Park in Lincolnshire, Ashton’s performances on the course and his all-round approach to his career earned him the sponsorship.
Ashton said: “I’ve known Gareth for quite a while now. He plays golf with my dad, but we recently played together which gave us chance to have a proper chat about my career in a relaxed atmosphere. “The support from Inspire Payments is massive for me. Tournaments have been few and far between in the last 18 months so to have this backing is priceless. I’m aiming to have a category on the European Tour within the next few years and working with supporters like Inspire Payments can only help me to achieve that.
“It means I’m going into tournaments without looking over my shoulder at what money I’ve got left, which takes the pressure off and allows me to focus on my game. It’s also nice to know that someone believes in me and thinks I’ve got what it takes, to the extent that they’re willing to make that financial investment in me.” Inspire Payments specialises in supporting small businesses with card payments and provides services for many golf courses and other golf venues in the UK, including the prestigious Royal Lytham & St Anne’s Golf Club.
Managing Director Gareth Poppleton said: “I’ve been aware of how talented Ashton is for a while now. He’s a dedicated young golfer and a very promising prospect. We’re delighted to be able to offer him this support and we hope it’s the start of a long and successful relationship. “Inspire Payments is all about supporting young talent and pushing the boundaries to achieve ambitious goals. Ashton is the embodiment of that ethos, and so when the opportunity arose to sponsor him it made perfect sense.”
